To ensure my surgeon was going to give me the best care and attention, I educated myself about my medical condition. Weekly when I had my consultations with him, I had 20 questions all asked in medical terminology. He quickly learned that I was reading. I had his complete attention and he knew I was aware of the different procedures, meds, etc. I am not an easy patient and it states that on my records. For a month I asked the questions and he instantly gave me the answers. We discussed hows and wherefores and by the time it was surgery, I knew I had the best. Once he even called my office and said, "Barbara, of all the patients I have had, you are the most educated and knowledgable." Coming from a surgeon who took his time that day to call me with that, I was certainly pleased and confident. Later while recuperating in the hospital, the nurses told me I had the best.
